All Eyes on Idaho
Or a couple dozen anyway.
Secretary of the Interior Kempthorne? I'm happy for him. He is not an Idaho man. Why he ever left the Senate after one term for the Governor's Mansion, I'll never know.
The Blue Staters are already whining about the appointment. They fancy Kempthorne as a right-wing nut job whose idea of happiness is sitting on top of a pile of old growth munching on Spotted Owl. I have always seen him as a taller Bill Clinton with a white-washed R after his name.
Either way, he belongs in Washington.

I don't meant to go conspiracy theory or anything...but....
don't you think it's weird all the publicity our little state is getting?
All of a sudden, (for no apparent reason) Bush stops by for a visit. Now, our governor has been nominated for secrectary of interior?
I think something smells funny!! Kind of like rotten money...maybe?
Just a thought...

Kempthorne is status quo-how dare ye! To suggest that he is a talking head and belongs in the Beltway™ is just, well, just…honest.
While a pleasant individual he has been a rather lame duck as a Governer-even since the first term.I think Bush picked him so suddenly because Kempthorne is safe. Bush can't afford another drawn out comfirmation process and Dirk allows a smooth transition. I do believe that he will push through some conservitive agendas-as I think he will be a VP pick in '08 to balance the ticket, unless Romney makes the ticket. If that is the case we will see Dirk go away.
Bush came this summer because 1) he has never come to this state and he needed a shot of popular support and 2) Dirk is/was(?) president of the national association of Governers and Bush has to keep relations well with his Republican Gov's, especially in the Western States.
I can't wait to see how Butch is going to do as Gov. Though he has a rather gray past he has consistantly upheld conservative values and seemingly stayed his conscience (kudos for speaking against provisions of the Patriot Act)
