It is one thing to know there is a stranger living three feet away from you, separated only by wood, plaster and unfamiliarty.
It is something else to stand at your bathroom sink, open the mirror cabinet and hear that stranger open his.

I once lived in an apartment where my neighbor and I both got up at 6:30am. You know how quiet it is that early in the day. The first morning that I heard him peeing was disconcerting. Even more disconcerting was when I realized that if I could hear him, he could hear me.
I had to start setting my alarm for a half hour earlier.
